Speaking To Family Members

A common question is why some lawyers are usually reluctant to speak with family members of those they represent. This is a common situation in scenarios where the attorney represents a child, yet the adult parent sometimes pays for the legal services. This seems like a common scenario, afterall, they have been caring for their children all of their life, right? Well there is a reason why an attorney may not choose to speak with family members in detail about representation.

Sycamore Row

I recently read the book Sycamore Row by John Grisham. It is the sequel to his famous book A Time To Kill (which was also made famous by the movie of the same name, with the lead character, Jake Brigance, being played by Matthew McConaughey). It was a good book, and I identified with many of the thoughts, struggles, and battles Jake Brigance encounters in both novels. One excerpt written in Sycamore Rowe particularly stood out to me.

Fake Houston Attorney Mark Bennett

I submitted a blog post by Houston, Texas Attorney Mark Bennett into the Dr. Nerve's Markov Page, which states that "the page allows the writer to type in prose or poetry, and submit it to a Markov Chain engine. "Any Lawyer Who Has Never Lost A Trial"

By Carl D. Ceder (written in February 2010 while working for Jamie Balagia, AKA "The DWI Dude")

Any lawyer who has NOT lost a jury trial is either lying or has not tried enough cases. "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" and the "Presumption of Innocence" are terms that every criminal defense attorney is familiar with. Seminars and legal books revolve completely around how a lawyer should convey each term to prospective jury members.
